Whether it’s Greek gods, Hindu gods or the god of Christianity there are several deity from which to choose. Some have special powers they use in connection with other gods who exercise other powers. There are people who believe it is possible to one day become a god based on how they have lived and what they believe. Those who fear gods are said to have Theophobia.
Theology is described by Wikipedia as, “The study of a god or, more generally the study of religious faith, practice, and experience, or of spirituality.” Many men and women make this study a priority for their lives and often their vocation. Others will have nothing to do with theology stating either indifference of a pronouncement of complete atheism. For those who fear the study of a god they may struggle with Theologicophobia.
Clark Griswold from the movie favorite “National Lampoons Vacation” was a guy who had a schedule and he had a felt need to maintain that schedule no matter the personal of family costs involved. He obsessed about the perfect vacation to the point where he sapped the joy from any potential familial enjoyment. There are those on the other side of the fence who actually find a well developed schedule a thing to be feared. These individuals are said to have Teleophobia.
During the Easter holiday Christians will speak reverently of the cross and the symbolism of sacrifice. In the time of Roman occupation of Jerusalem crucifixion was a the most despicable way to die. Perhaps that’s why some fear the cross. This fear is known as Staurophobia.
Sometimes, phobias can surface in response to images in mass media, books, and films. Often, people who fear demons feel frightened by portrayals of demons in horror films, old religious texts, and other such things…this fear is known as Daemonophobia.
If anyone posses the fear of spirits it was Ebeneezer Scrooge in “Christmas Carol”. He was visit by Jacob Marley who spoke of ill tidings about his future. He was visited by the spirits (ghosts) of Christmas Past, Present and Future. He expressed fear at every meeting. While fictional the story of Scrooge portrays a fear known as Pneumatiphobia.
Democratic societies flourish when the exchange of ideas result in a marketplace of understanding. Philosophy has allowed many college students to consider ideas they may have never thought of before. The profound fear of philosophy is known as Philosophobia.
In a society that seeks to define civilization in terms of order there is often a religious underpinning that guides the behavior of its citizens. These guiding principles are known as laws, but there can be a secondary grouping of inner directives that cause people to act in certain ways. To violate these inner laws or principles would be to sin in religious terms. When an individual has a profound fear of sinning they are said to have Peccatophobia.
The fear of Bolsheviks is known as Bolshephobia. Bolshevism is the desire to apply Marxist principles to society.
The Pope is considered a sacred representative of faith. He speaks for the Catholic church and emphasizes many good works that have led to a better life for many around the world. However, this individual can inspire profound fear in those who suffer from Papaphobia.
